Big Campus. Smaller Footprint.

What if one of the smartest vehicles on campus wasn’t a van at all?

At Manchester Metropolitan University, thousands of everyday tasks happen behind the scenes — maintenance teams moving tools, facilities staff travelling between buildings, event equipment being shifted, and supplies making short trips across campus.

That made it the perfect environment to see where the MEV XL could fit.

During our recent demonstration, the team had the opportunity to experience how a compact electric utility vehicle could handle the kind of short, practical journeys that happen constantly across a busy university estate.

Manchester Met’s Estates, Facilities and Campus Development teams are responsible for maintaining buildings and spaces alongside services including security, catering, cleaning, conferences and events.

And that creates plenty of situations where a full-size van may simply be more vehicle than the job requires.

Think maintenance tools moving between buildings. Facilities equipment crossing campus. Catering or event supplies needing a quick transfer. Grounds teams carrying materials.

That’s the space the MEV XL is built for.

Manchester Met is also working towards becoming zero carbon by 2038, making the conversation around cleaner, more efficient campus transport even more relevant.

The demonstration wasn’t simply about switching petrol or diesel for electricity.

It was about asking a better question:

Could everyday campus jobs be completed with less vehicle, less noise and zero tailpipe emissions — without losing the practicality teams actually need?

Sometimes smarter mobility isn’t about going bigger.

It’s about using exactly what the job requires.
